Textual analysis - Two fingers - Jake Bugg

This close up shot of the guitar shows his close connection with music , and just really tells us more about him . The shot itself is well lit and in focus , I like the idea of focussing on one aspect that's important to the character and making this visible to the audience .

I love the lighting in this scene the sort of blue and grey colours that contrast with what they are doing , the colours give this sort of melancholy tone in comparison to we assume they are about to tour and they're at the airport .I also like the use of the silhouette for the characters I think aesthetically it looks really good against the background. I would like to include this use of mise-en-scene in my video.

Here is another example of an establishing shot , it really does set the scene , it gives connotations of the boys being from a lower class. The idea this man is an artist and in his spare time he takes recreational drugs with his friends on a sofa in the middle of the street , perhaps shows how his life was before he came famous.

I like the angle used here, its more a mid-shot but not of a person of the scene surrounding them. It also gives this feeling of emptiness, in this scene the boys dad had just stormed out away from the mother . It gives the impression he had a hard upbringing and maybe this is the explanation as to why he decided to become an artist.

This close-up of the boys face with the lighting almost just conveys teenage life, most teenagers ,around their friends, like to appear as important and respected. It shows the typical aspect of them smoking , and also taking marijuana . This whole idea of teenagers being reckless almost as if they don't care, in my music video I want to out forward an explanation for this. Why is the younger generation so quick to damage themselves.

The establishing shot shows them 'flying' away , we assume they have a gig abroad as they have packed their band items . It also symbolises the start of something new this shot is taken towards the end of the video, almost as if the video says 'This was my life , This is what I've been through, but look at me now .

The panning shpt of the feet coming down the stairs I am really interested in , I believe if filmed well this can look really nice and add a moment of silence to the performance. In this scene from the music video it was focussed and followed almost in a spiral motion to show this motion of travel , adding more elements to the shot.

This scene interests me as I enjoy the idea behind it .The idea that he's setting this stuff on fire symbolises him letting go of someone he used to be . I love how matches add to the aesthetic within a 'fire' scene  , it makes it look a much more rustic instead of throwing a lighter on the pile.

This is a mid-shot, which coveys’ ideas of excitement and emotion. When we watch the music video, we know he is a musician so the assumption here is he’s about to go into one of his gigs. It again just gives him this sense of personality. I really like the low-key lighting shown and how it casts shadows on his face, giving a more melancholy tone. Use of mise-en-scene.

This shot is a great establishing shot, into giving us an insight into the character they are wanting to show. It gives the impression that he’s from a small town trying to make his way in the music industry. I really like the fact we assume so much from this one shot, and it leaves a narrative strand open as we want to know more about the boy’s life.

The artist is acting within this music video so it represents the artist in a particular light. Although Jake Bugg is known as a 'indie' artist , and he shows in this that the way he lives his life would be similar to 'indie' people. However I do think the representation of him does change slightly from the music video , we get a much greater insight into his life before fame . He communicates his mother and father were in an unstable relationship and he was pretty much left to look after himself and them as well as he grew old enough to as they weren't capable . I chose to do my textual analysis on this music video as I believe it shows a perfect example of a protest music video .The lyrics themselves suggest because of his upbringing he is numb to violence and pain in the world , I think it also comments on how most teenagers these days are desensitised towards violence and suffering .
